ASTM A268 TP405 is a ferritic stainless steel seamless tube conforming to ASTM A268/A268M standards. It is a general-purpose specification for seamless and weldable ferritic/martensitic stainless steel tubes.

TP405 belongs to the low-chromium ferritic family, its most notable characteristic being the addition of aluminum, designed to improve high-temperature oxidation resistance and inhibit weld sensitization.

It is a low-cost, high-temperature oxidation-resistant, and weld sensitization-resistant ferritic stainless steel.

Advantages of TP405 Material:

1.Excellent High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance (Aluminum-Containing Properties): Aluminum forms a dense Al₂O₃ oxide film at high temperatures, giving it superior oxidation resistance compared to ordinary 410 stainless steel. Suitable for continuous high-temperature environments ≤800°C.

2.Excellent Weldability: Traditional ferritic stainless steels are prone to intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone after welding. TP405, due to the stabilizing effect of aluminum, is less prone to sensitization after welding, making it suitable for manufacturing welded components.

3.Excellent Resistance to Stress Corrosion Cracking: Austenitic stainless steels are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing environments, while TP405, as a ferritic steel, is virtually immune to this.

4.High Cost-Effectiveness: With extremely low nickel content (≤0.5%), the material cost is significantly lower than that of 304/321 stainless steel containing more than 8% nickel, making it an ideal choice for budget-sensitive high-temperature projects.
